There are lots of ways of finding an booking self catering holiday accommodation and cottages these days, and they all have their advantages. The big players (no name, no pack drill) are really easy to set up on for owners, and are well searched, but do tend to take a significant commission on all bookings. Very significant.
Selling direct on your own website means much less, maybe no commission, and there is still lots of business to be found via search engines, referrals and repeat business.
And that was the goal of our friends at Great Prawls Farm when they came to discuss a new website for their holiday cottages on the Kent / Sussex border near Rye.
So that's what we did. A photo led website (has to be - such pretty surroundings) with separate landing pages for their two different offers - Tamworth Cottage and Meadow Cottage. Each have embedded booking availability calendars (in this case from https://www.holiday-bookings-online.com/ but other systems are available), with pages updateable by the owners, who deal with bookings directly.
Not free, but not expensive to do, and can save hundreds in commissions on a single booking. If this might work for you, talk to the team at Prater Raines about building a website for your rental holiday accommodation.
